1. Initial Setup and Overview

Welcome to the Budget Vision tutorial series! This first guide will walk you through creating your account and setting up the foundational elements of your budget.

Creating Your Account

If you haven't already, sign up for an account. Upon your first login, you'll be guided through the initial setup process.

Setting Up Your Accounts

Your "Accounts" represent where your money is stored. This can be physical cash, bank accounts, or digital wallets.

Adjust currencies and accounts

Navigate to Settings -> Accounts. By default, you'll have a cash account. You can edit its currency or add new accounts for everything you use. For example:

  • Main Checking (USD)
  • Wise Account (EUR)
  • Cash on hand (THB)
  • Emergency Fund (USD)

Set Your Starting Balances

This is the most critical step. To make your forecast accurate, you need to tell Budget Vision how much money you have right now.

You can do this by right-clicking on today's date on the calendar and selecting "Create correction." Enter the actual balance for each of your accounts. This creates a Balance Correction, which acts as the anchor for your entire plan.

You've now set the foundation. In the next tutorial, we'll add your regular income and bills.
