6. Emergency Fund Strategy

An emergency fund is a crucial part of financial stability. It's money set aside specifically for unexpected life events, like a medical issue or job loss.

Budget Vision is a great tool for building and tracking your emergency fund without having it interfere with your day-to-day operational budget.

The Strategy: A Hidden Account

The best way to manage your emergency fund is to treat it as a separate, untouchable savings account.

  1. Create a New Account: Go to Settings -> Accounts and create a new account named "Emergency Fund".
  2. Hide it from the Dashboard: When creating the account, toggle the "Hide in the dashboard" switch.
  3. Fund it with Transfers: Set up a recurring transfer from your main checking account to your "Emergency Fund" account. This could be $100 every month, for example.

By hiding the account, the money in your emergency fund won't be included in your main "Total Balance" that you see every day. This prevents you from accidentally thinking you have more spending money than you do.

You can view your progress at any time by going to the quick settings on the top right and toggling "Show hidden accounts".
